Keynote speaker Fred W. Clarke, FAIA will present California 2020 Connection - A World Class Transit Center in San Francisco.
The global community requires nations to collaborate their human imagination and technology without borders. This exchange of concepts and information produces resources and goods that are traded freely, nurturing businesses, economic growth, and ideas to thrive and expand under equal opportunities for all participants.
Innovative state-of-the-art transportation systems centralized with employment and housing centers create sustainable prototypes in fostering economic growth and reducing carbon footprints among our local and global communities. The theme 2020 CONNECTION represents a target date for the implementation of the California High Speed Rail vision.
2020 CONNECTION will see the San Francisco Bay Area have a world class intermodal transportation hub, known as the Transbay Center, with a centralized local and high-speed transportation connection throughout major urban centers in California. This urban complex, with an employment center and a housing community, will promote sustainable living. The Transbay Center will be the dynamic heartbeat for an emerging economic and social urban paradigm that other global cities will look towards as a successful example of centralized mass transit, employment center, and efficient urban dwellings.
Speaker: Fred Clarke is a Senior Principal of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects and a founding member of the firm, established with Cesar Pelli in 1977. Mr. Clarke is a Design Principal for all projects from the New Haven studio. He has worked for nearly 40 years in Asia, beginning with the American Embassy in Tokyo, while at Gruen Associates. He has lectured widely and taught at such universities as Yale, Rice, and UCLA. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, First-Class Registered Architect in Japan, a member of the Japan Institute of Architects and a Fellow of the Philippine Institute of Architects.
Master of Ceremony: Born in the San Joaquin Valley and raised in Northern Marin County, Curtiss Kim is a Bay Area broadcast veteran in both radio and television with affiliations including NBC, CBS and CNN during his career of over 35 years. Mr. Kim has won multiple awards from the Associated Press and the Radio Television News Directors Association for both featured reporting and hard news coverage. Other awards include two national Telly Awards, the Peninsula Press Club Award and the Western Media Association honor of Best Community News. Mr. Kim currently co-anchors a popular radio program, The KSRO Morning Show, for the news and talk radio station in Sonoma County. He is an active member of the Asian American Journalist Association and mentors young broadcasters wishing to advance their careers.
Performance: Crystal Children’s Choir was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994 and has since grown into a 1,200 member organization. The mission of the organization is to strive for choral excellence by providing life enriching music education to children and blending the best of Eastern and Western musical traditions. The Choir has performed around the world at prestigious venues including St. Peter’s Basilica, Sydney Opera House, Beijing Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Davies Symphony Hall. The Crystal Children’s Choir organization aspires to be a cultural ambassador of children’s choral music, especially in the field of Chinese folk songs and newly commissioned works.
